FAQ about Life Coaching
What is Life Coaching?
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The results can be life changing. Clients often say they’ve created a new outlook on life – finding inspiration, courage, confidence, and answers to long-burning questions within themselves."
What is the difference between Life Coaching and Therapy?
Although life coaching and therapy can complement each other, life coaching is not therapy. The purpose of coaching is frequently about improving performance and developing positive strategies, while therapy often addresses emotional issues or personal healing.
Who enrolls in Life Coaching?
Many parents choose coaching for their children to address motivation, confidence, time management, academics and post-high school planning. Students and parents enroll in coaching because they want to change something in their lives and they want help along the way. By hiring me as your coach, you will be provided support to achieve your goals more quickly and efficiently.
What happens in Life Coaching?
First step: The Interview - Parents and students "interview" me to see if the services I provide align with their needs. When you decide life coaching is a good fit, we will schedule the Initial Session.
Second step: Initial Session - We will meet for 30-45 minutes to discuss your life areas, including what's going well and what needs attention. We will identify goals, set up a schedule for meeting times and generate a list of "To Do" items.
Third step: Coaching - We will meet on a consistent basis to review goals, identify what's working and focus on what needs to be modified to insure you are making the progress you desire. I'm also available for email and text check-ins between sessions. I love to hear about your successes when they happen and support you when you need an extra boost between sessions!
What is your coaching style?
As a coach, I'm upbeat and invested in your success. It is my goal for clients to feel both supported and challenged as they work towards their goals. My coaching style has been described as warm, direct, and fun. I am here to celebrate your successes and provide support when you encounter challenges. When I hear confidence and joy in my clients' voices, I know I've done my job.
What can I expect from Life Coaching?
Although the coaching experience is different for everyone, my clients report common outcomes. Parents and students say that they have improved their ability to manage stress, plan their time, communicate more effectively and create positive changes in their lives. They are better able to make decisions and navigate the daily demands of school, work and home. They have a clearer sense of what is important to them and how they want to live their lives.
What are the benefits of online coaching?
Online coaching allows you to open up more fully and provides you with flexible session times. In the privacy of your home, you can focus on the work at hand, instead of worrying about what you might look like when you get emotional or whether you have leave the house to drive to a session. Online coaching allows you to work with me regardless of the country, city or state in which you live.
What about confidentiality?
Everything we talk about is 100% confidential and unless you tell someone that we are working together (or give me your express permission to do so) no one will know that we have spoken.
How long does coaching take?
There are no long-term commitments. Most people benefit from 8 life coaching sessions. However, some people continue sessions year-round, depending on their academic and social goals.
What is your availability?
I work with individual clients Tuesday-Saturday 10:00AM-10:00PM (Eastern Time Zone). Group session dates and times vary.
